I called Jerry “Tex” because he exuded a lot of the qualities that I like and associate with Texas. He always had a story or a slice of history to add to any conversation. And a heart the size of TX.
He and I bonded quickly over our love of the west’s mountains and lakes. We both worked for the forest service when we were younger. And I had family that lived in Red River county. I always felt like I had known him longer than I actually did.
But more than that it was his warmth and sense of humor that made us quick and good friends. He had real grit and character, and a lifetime of stories to prove that he earned it.
He was a good friend and I’ll miss him very much!
